TWD: Burnt Sugar Ice Cream
This is the first ice-cream recipe I have made this year. My Cuisinart ice-cream maker is one appliance that I feel guilty for owning. I have way too many appliances and kitchen gadgets and with the weather here in B.C. this one sits unused in the back of my storage cabinet for 3/4 of the year. However, every time I get THISCLOSE to giving it away or selling it, a wonderful recipe like this one presents itself and makes me think that I just can't live without it.
It tastes unique but in a familiar and comforting way. Creamy, sweet and delicious. It was homey, dreamy caramel ice-cream with a twist. This recipe (p. 432) from Baking: From My Home to Yours was chosen by Becky of Project Domestication. The recipe can be found on her blog.
I'm already thinking about the next time I make these. I will add one or all of these mix-ins: Rolo pieces, Heath bar bits... perhaps a swirl of dulce de leche.
glad the ice cream maker got to be used for such an amazing creation! the mixins sound delightful
ReplyDeleteAll those mix-ins sound amazing! :) Glad you liked this one!
ReplyDeleteI would never part with my ice cream maker! Your ice cream looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about having an ice cream maker. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteLooks like I have to get an ice cream maker. Yours is tempting me, just a bit too much.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a delight. I like how you added on to make it even better.
I agree, this ice cream had a deliciously homey taste to it! How lucky you are to own a cuisinart ice cream maker! Never sell it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous that you have a Cuisinart ice cream maker, hold on to that for dear life! :D Beautiful ice cream. I don't think I cooked my caramel long enough because it didn't look this dark and delicious.
ReplyDeleteLove it,love it, love it :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks lovely...it looks like you used vanilla bean paste. I think Heath bits would be fabulous. I'd write more but I'm very distracted by that orange poppyseed loaf...
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely reason enough to keep the ice cream maker! Yours looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteMmmm. All the add ins sound yummy! This was enjoyed at my house.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about my ice cream maker! Your ice cream looks wonderful, and those additions sound pretty tempting too.
ReplyDeleteI always crave ice cream, even in the dead of winter...and I just got a cuisinart! SO making this.
ReplyDeleteI borrowed a friend's Cuisinart countertop ice cream freezer, and it worked great. I've held out on buying one because I'm afraid it would make it WAY too easy to make ice cream more often. Your ice cream looks great!
ReplyDeleteOh, keep the ice cream maker! I have 3 that I use all year long. If I had to do an add-in, I would choose a dulce de leche swirl. Your ice cream looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteWow, your ice cream looks awesome! Did you use vanilla bean - it looks like vanilla bean flecks in there! I don't use my ice cream maker much either but not because of the weather - egg-based ice creams were always a problem with me. But this time, not so much at all!
ReplyDeleteLove that close up shot! Looks incredible.
ReplyDeleteThat icecream looks just divine - I keep away from icecream as I like it way too much - it would be a deadly trap for me to own an icecream maker, sadly !!
ReplyDeleteLove the tiny specks of vanilla in your ice cream! Great work! Glad you've decided to keep your ice cream machine.
ReplyDeleteOoh, Rolos. I added some toffee bits to mine. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI say keep the ice cream maker. ;)
Ooh Heath bar would be yummy! Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm this looks amazing, so creamy! I would love to have an ice cream maker but like you, I bet I would only use it for a few days in the whole year!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm your ice cream looks so so good, I definately think Rolos would be so good in this!! Cravings hehe!
ReplyDeleteYour ice cream looks amazing! What a perfect colour. I love your add in ideas. I will definitely make this ice cream again and again.
ReplyDeleteDon't get rid of it!! It's worth it, not having to mix by hand.
ReplyDeleteYour ice cream looks fantstic!
It looks delicious! Adding some candy sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteDon't give up your ice cream maker! It's nice to have one even if you don't use it a lot.
yum! i don't make that much ice cream at home, but i really do think my maker is one of the best gadgets i own!
ReplyDeleteThis looks just perfect. And I feel you on the ice cream maker--I just have the KitchenAid attachment and still feel like it's quite the unitasker. But there's nothing like homemade ice cream, so for the few times a year I use it, I'm in love with it. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I did use vanilla bean :)
ReplyDeleteI was afraid to "waste" it since they're so expensive, but Oh No, this was an excellent use!
My ice cream maker doesn't get as much use as it should, but it's so nice to have one when the mood strikes, isn't it? Your ice cream looks so delicious!
ReplyDeleteThis cookbook is amazing....every recipe is just perfect in every way...
ReplyDelete:)
Yum! I was thinking of adding some heath bits too :)
ReplyDeletei definitely need to use my maker more often as well. It will now with this IC. Looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteHomemade ice cream sounds divine!! Love your pictures:)
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream looks perfect, great call adding a vanilla bean. I didn't think I'd use my ice cream maker very often, but i make ice cream almost every week.
ReplyDeleteYou are right heath bar would be delicious with this ice cream. I have an ice cream maker too that only gets used a few months of the year but it is great to have when you want it.
ReplyDeleteAfraid I wouldn't eat much ice cream either in your climate. But yours looks delish.
ReplyDeleteBut those crackers are calling my name. They look so-o-o-o good.
pretty! If your ice cream maker is yellow, maybe we should trade :-)
ReplyDeleteMy home made ice cream usually doesn't turn out so nice. After I put it in the freezer, it turns hard as ice.
ReplyDeleteWhat cream do you use?
Thanks!
