About Me

My name is Tia. I live in Washington State but am originally from Vancouver, BC.  In 2011 I fell in love with an American boy. He is my friend, my partner, my love. We got married, applied for my green card and finally (August 2013) I was able to move across the border to be with him.

I am also a mommy to an amazing little boy. He is bundle of energy and keeps me on my toes. He's growing up faster than I can keep track of!

I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a French Major, Kinesiology Minor. I originally planned to be a French teacher but changed my mind and went on to get my CPA designation instead. Turns out that I really love accounting!

However, baking is my true passion. I remember the first time I baked on my own. It was a hot, summer's day and I was 8 years old. I made jam-filled tarts from scratch following a 1-2-3 I Can Bake type children's book. Much to my mother's dismay, the floor was covered in flour and butter by the time I was done. However, she also says the tarts were excellent. From that day on I was hooked.

I have been reading others' blogs for so long that I figured it was long overdue that I try writing one myself.

My current baking focus is on sweet yeast breads. For the longest time I used to run the other direction from any recipe that contained yeast, but now I find these recipes to be the most rewarding. No matter how many times it happens, I still get excited to find that my loaf has risen beautifully. My baking/cooking goals for this year are to experiment more with candy-making, laminated doughs and to try my hand at fondant at least once.
