FFWD: Savory Cheese and Chive Bread

I have been horrible at keeping up with French Fridays with Dorie (FFWD). I love the book, I love Dorie but my problem is that I don't love cooking. My passion lies with baking and sweets, so I have truthfully not had much inclination to make a lot of the recipes that this group has made.

That being said, here is my (late) savory cheese bread, found on pages 34-36 of Around my French Table. I didn't have chives so I omitted them, but it was still delicious! I'm going to try my hardest to keep up with the group, even if I only opt to do the sweet, baking recipes. I am going to try and make the Salted Butter Break-Ups this weekend and hopefully post that soon.

Wish me luck getting back on the FFWD Bandwagon! Be sure to check out FFWD Blogroll to see how the other group members made out this week.

Hi, Tia,

Baking is my passion, too! I really wish I could have joined Tuesdays with Dorie as I've made so many recipes from that book already! But, I'm learning a lot with FFWD, and it's fun to see what people create. Your bread looks great!

I'm having trouble posting anything on Fridays myself, although I love the recipes in Around my French Table. Your chive bread looks fab!

I have to admit that baking is my passion but my body likes salad;-)

I loved this savory cheese bread and you're going to love the butter cookies too;-)

Your cheese bread looks good! The SBBU cookie will be easy-peasy for you. You can put it in the oven after you've baked another of your fabulous sweets. :)

Your bread looks wonderful. I wouldn't stress too much about playing catch-up. Although, if you like sweets, I think you'll want to try this week's recipe!

I'm glad you baked this. Welcome back! I thought it was such a good bread and yours looks so good with those large chunks of cheese. I am glad you posted this week and hope we do more baking in future months.

I love baking too but I've learned to love cooking as well. I loved this bread and I'm glad you were able to try it. Sometimes our schedules aren't compatible with french fridays....no matter how hard we try!

Baking is definitely my first love, but I have come to appreciate how this is making push into new areas. Don't stress about catching up!

The bread looks great.

Your bread looks fabulous...and I'm looking forward to your butter break ups. I get my joy out of baking, too...but this group has prevented me from making a gooey chocolate dessert every other day :)

It's too bad AMFT hasn't lit a cooking fire in you. Prior to FFWD I didn't like cooking either. I say follow your bliss! Bake bake bake!

I always think of myself as a baker first, too. I'm pretty much self-taught as a cook and getting better each time I try something. I'm glad you're cooking along with us!

Lovely photos - the hunks of cheese in that shot look amazing. Good for you for keeping it real and keeping up whenever it works with your schedule. I think very few of us would make the selections on our own (even though we vote for them :) but I have to say that I have really come to enjoy the surprise. Most good surprises, but not always :0 Good luck with the Salted Butter adventure. Tricia & Nana

You will love the salted butter break-ups. So yummy!

We enjoyed the bread too - at least the adults in the house did, the kids not so much!

I'm so glad you tried this! Something different. I haven't tried the bon idees (with the dried pears), but that sounds terrific too... might be heading in your direction - plus would be great with your salad!

I think you will love the break-ups! Ridiculously (sp?) easy, but really, really good. And as someone else commented, you can do that while you're doing something more complicated! Salt, butter, a little sweet... and a bit silly too.

Oh (long comment!), don't stress about participating... it's supposed to be fun!!!

Your bread reminds me how good this was. I have to make another loaf. Funny, I'm much more of a cooker, than a baker. Though I'm really enjoying Dorie's baking recipes in AMFT.

Welcome back! Your cheese bread looks super yummy! I missed the week that recipe was up so I think I need to go back and make it soon! It sounds wonderful.

Hi Tia! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I have to admit I am the other way around, baking intimidates me a little but I love cooking. I think that's why I especially loved this week's cookie recipe. It was so easy to pull off!

I am always scrambling to finish a post on time, and most of the times I publish on Saturdays:)
I am glad you made cheesy bread - it was simple and pretty tasty.
Your photo is great, sunny and bright, perfect treat for spring:)

So glad you baked and posted the cheese bread. It is beautiful. I'm lucky that should I choose to cook and bake all day, there are always people here to eat it all or I can take food to our office and they will eat it too. I just wish I did not have to clean the house, do the yard, do office work, etc, etc so that I could have more time to do these kinds of things that I love and enjoy. (But I do have one daughter who loves to clean...I just don't understand her.) But most of my friends can't understand why I would ever want to spend more time in the kitchen. But I appreciate what they like to do, and most of what they like is not for me. I'm glad that we all have different interests and talents...it's good that not everyone wants to cook. So if you like baking, good for you! Most people are not good bakers so your world needs you! Someone else can do the cooking. But it is nice to get some good skills, recipes, tips to do things better and easier, etc...and maybe even though cooking is not 1st on your list, it will be a good experience. I hope.

Looks like you got a great crumb to the quickbread there. I've been a bit frustrated by how much baking is going on in FFwD! lol. I'd much rather roast a chicken.

Cakelaw said...

LOL - at least this one is up your alley. I have to say that my first love is baking too.

Maybe you could just make the dessert recipes, like you said. I haven't been with the group too long, but I think there's at least one baking recipe a month. And since the group is for fun, you should make what you like to make. Glad you liked the bread; I hope you enjoy the break-ups too!

I'm with you, it's a lot easier to keep up on the baking than the cooking for some reason. Your bread looks beautiful, I need to try this recipe!

I prefer baking too! But I like that ffwd challenges me to cook, and to cook things out of my comfort zone!

Hi,

Where do you find the recipe for the bread? I am new on your site but the recipes look great. Can't wait to try some of them.

Hi Debbie, Sorry for the confusion, but for TWD (Tuesdays with Dorie) and FFWD (French Fridays with Dorie) are groups where we all bake the same recipe from one book. We don't post the recipes for these weeks (to incite people to buy the books). Thanks for visiting my site! I include recipes for everything else other than TWD and FFWD.
