FFWD: Gérard's Mustard Tart

This is my first French Fridays (FF) post! We are starting in on Dorie Greenspan's new book - Around My French Table (AMFT).

I'm especially excited because Dorie selected the October 2010 recipes herself! It's so cool to have the author interacting with our blogalong group. To be honest, I would have never bought this book if not for this group.
1) I prefer baking over cooking
2) I'm not a huge fan of French food

But I *AM* a huge fan of Dorie's, so here I am. Challenging myself and widening my palate's horizons. This tart was a nice ease-into the group. It was something I'm used to; Something a lot like a quiche. I used 1/2 the amount of mustard called for in the recipe because I served it to my 3 year old and didn't want to overwhelm his tastebuds. It was fragrant and delicious in its balance of smooth, eggy filling and al dente crunch of the carrots and leeks.

Now that I've got my feet wet I'm looking forward to the other recipes this book has to offer. The beautiful food photos alone are worth the $25 in my opinion.

Well I can tell you this... this book is going to be your passage to liking french food and making more savory dishes.

Your tart looks yumm-yumm! I had the last piece for breakfast this morning!

I prefer baking over cooking too.. it's just more fun!

That tart looks pretty good though. I've always wanted to make a tart but if I have to make the crust it always seems really hard.

I am with you on preferring baking over cooking but I think this will be a very fun group. Gorgeous tart! :)

What a fantastic looking tart, Tia, you did a great job. And I bet it tastes divine! I really need to get a Dorie cookbook and a Bittman cookbook. I feel so left out, lol!

Yours looks so professional!

Great job! Your tart looks fantastic! I'm an equal opportunity chef/baker, although I've been doing a lot more baking lately. I'm looking forward to learning some French cooking and introducing my family to French food.

Love the name of your blog! :) I have to agree with you ... I'd rather be baking, not really into French food, but I love Dorie, so here I am cooking along with AMFT. Beautiful photo!

Thanks! I'm definitely much more of a baker but joined the group to learn some great french recipes! The P's & Q's have been so helpful. Lovely tart!

Thanks for stopping in. I love that all you bakers are doing this. I am the complete opposite. I love to cook and I rarely bake. We can all help eachother. You with baking me with cooking.

Your tart looks great - did your 3-year-old like it??

I'm the opposite of you. Baking scares me but cooking is comfort for me. This one was a bit of both! Your photo composition WINS! Lovely!

Me too! I am more of a brownie fan than a french food fan but I am a dorie fan which I guess trumps everything else.

It turned out lovely! Good idea to tone down the mustard for your 3-year old. Great photo!

Beautiful tart! I can't wait to try it with the leeks and carrots.

Savory baking feels almost like 'cheating cooking' to me :) ie you get the fun/pleasure of baking but end up with a whole meal. Lovely job!

I'm the same and totally agree with your 1 & 2! But also--it IS Dorie. And your tart looks perfect! I made minis. Pretty good, since I don't love mustard.

I'm much more of a cook than a baker, but even so, this book is challenging me -- there's a lot of baking involved for someone like me. :-)
